Autumn Maintenance To-Do List
Like it or not, Fall is right around the corner! I dont know about you but its hard to start thinking about the shorter days, changing outfits in the kids closets and of course the cold weather! All things do have their season and honestly this is a great time to get that To-Do list completed.
Install Gutter Guards
Before leaves start to fall in mass, install gutter guards that will prevent leaves from clogging down spouts and creating water damage. We can help you find a few options or contact a contractor to complete this task.
Change Smoke Detectors
Check your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly and that they are not expired (most have a life span of
6 to 10years). We have a good selection of both Smoke and CM detectors and even 2 in 1 detectors.
Change Air Filters
Cleaning and/or replacing air filters in your home is always a good idea periodically. If you have forgotten about this item, making a monthly reminder in your calendar will help. During the Winter months when the home is closed up, filtering the air is even more important since its unlikely you will be opening up windows for fresh air. We have a great supply of filter material and standard register filters to meet your needs.
Clean Chimney
Its a dirty job but someone has to do it! Cleaning your chimney is something you will want to do at least annually if not more often depending on multiple factors. This can be a little more then a standard DIY project especially if it hasn’t been completed in a while. If its pretty clean you might be able to burn a few chimney sweeping logs that reduce the build up of creosote, but don’t rely on these alone. Contact a qualified chimney sweep for the best, safest results.
Power Equipment Service
Now is the perfect time to schedule lawn mower and Power Equipment service. Since the lawn cutting season is about over, get one more cut in and then get your mower and trimmer serviced. Make sure your equipment is looked at before it sits for the winter so any issues can be resolved without rushing. We offer free Pickup and Delivery Service within 10 miles from December through February.
Remove Leaf Piles
After the kids have had their fun in the leaf piles, make sure to remove them from your lawn. Leaves are great to add to a compost pile, but can damage your lawn and provide insects and other creatures a place to hide if given the chance. Any piles around the house should be removed to prevent animals nesting over winter. We have a host of tool options to get this job done quickly! From wheel barrows and rakes to leaf blowers and vacs, we have you covered.
Drain and Store Watering Equipment
Hoses and other watering systems that are exposed to the outdoors should be shut off and drained to prevent pipes or other containers from cracking. Its better to do this sooner rather than later or setting a reminder 3 or 4 weeks before the typical first frost date. You can also install heat tape on pipes to keep them from freezing. If you need to keep you water equipment exposed to the elements contacting a local plumber maybe the safest bet.
Service Heating Equipment
Whether you have a Heat Pump, Furnace, Boiler, Stove or any other heating source now is the time to have it maintained. If you have a modern heating system such as a heat pump and/or furnace you can setup a yearly preventive maintenance with a qualified HVAC company.
It isnt always easy getting ready for the change of seasons but Autumn can be a lovely time of year if your prepared. So get your To-Do list completed and sit back and enjoy the apple cider, pumpkin picking and the beautiful leaves!
